WebNov 5, 2024 · Turn on the amp and with a DC voltmeter measure the voltage (referenced to ground) from the tip of the jack where the guitar is plugged in. You should see basically zero volts. Anything you see greater than that is a static DC potential which will manifest itself as 'scratchy pot sound' when you turn the guitar volume control.
